The Easy-mode ending in SoR3 where the game ends after Stage 5 is sort of like this, but the boss is a Mr. Contrast this to SoR3, where you are mainly destroying robots (on the good ending) or the feds (bad ending). X and smash his skull in personally, and by Stage 8 you feel like Chuck Norris and Rambo combined as you single-handedly destroy an army of goons.

There is nothing like this in any ending/playthrough of SoR3, and in SoR2 it really brings things full circle you are here to see Mr. Stage 8 in SoR2 was probably the best stage in that game, as the game's intro music plays throughout and you go through what is essentially a boss rush. I would take SoR2 any day of the week, where I can toss these guys overhead and not worry about having to approach them differently when other enemies are closing in. realistic I guess, but gameplay-wise was frustrating. The fat enemies (Dwight, Big Ben, etc.) cannot be lifted without your character taking damage. The secret characters are cool, but Shiva and Roo both cannot use items and Shiva's grab attacks are terrible to the point that Shiva grabbing someone is a liability. It also liked to float around the room and stay out of your reach I don't know how the devs expected the average player to beat this thing in 3 mins. This boss on the harder difficulties was almost impossible to beat in this time, unless you cheese it with Shiva or played near-perfect. However, the good ending depended on first finishing stage 6 very quickly (to the point of near-optimization, since they didn't leave too much wiggle room with the timer) and then beating stage 8 (which was just a fight with the final boss) within 3 minutes. SoR3 had a good and bad ending, which was cool. The American release at least is glitched there are times when just grabbing an opponent will sap half their health (before any attacks connect), and sometimes the Garcia grunts can land 1-2 punches on you and eat up half or more of your health bar.

Compare this to SoR3, where everyone can run, everyone has powerful moves, and while Zan was unique, this is mainly due to his inability to "use" weapons and floatiness in general. Hitting someone with a lead pipe or katana, or landing Max's jumping back-breaker grab move felt soooo satisfying and there's nothing like it in SoR3Įach character in SoR2 felt really different and distinct: Max was a slow-moving wall of death, Blaze was technical and relied on range/spacing, Skate was speedy as only he could "run", and Axel was well-rounded. The soundtrack, but not even just the music but the sound effects. Decades later, if given the choice I would fire up SoR2, because I remember it as fun while SoR3 was a chore to play through. SoR2 is tough but fair on the harder difficulties, but it still felt fun to try in ways SoR3 did not. However, this was after months of practicing and getting good, to the point that playing this game felt like work. This does not mean it's physically impossible to beat I myself have beaten it on Hard. The main gripe is the difficulty SoR3 is hard to the point of absurdity. This article is definitely worth a read, but aside from the good points this made, here's my take: The localization made several character's outfits less revealing, or changed character palettes just for the sake of it (Axel's clothes going from white shirt and blue pants to yellow shirt and black pants in reference to Adam, and Blaze's outfit going from red to white).Ĭonsidering how a some of these complaints were brought on by the localization (difficulty balancing, removed/changed characters), many players just prefer to play Bare Knuckle 3 instead. The localization removed actual gameplay content with the removal of Ash as a miniboss and hidden character. Some of the backgrounds are a little plain due to less vibrant colors.

The art style leans heavier on realism than the previous games. Not necessarily bad (it's my favorite of the 3 classics), but definitely harder to listen to unless you're already into that style. The soundtrack is harsher and more experimental. The default difficulty between the JP releases of the 3 games is pretty consistent, but SoR3's difficulty increase is to the point where most newbies got frustrated quickly.

The western localization pumped up the difficulty too much for the returning audience. It confused me too when I first learned that other people didn't like 3 the best.
